The issue is related to CO vs. CL forwarding. The two extremes are to transport a flow exclusively over connection-less or connection-less transport facilities. It is part of Pristine to analyze strategies to study solutions that are in between those two extremes. We think to deploy a decision taking entity (DTE) that is supposed to to the following: 1) monitor a (set of) flows 2) decide if the (set of) flows is better served by a connection oriented forwarding with more dedicated resources 3) set up the CO channel(s) 4) cut flows over from the CL forwarding to the CO channels
as part of the exercise also the reverse mechanism needs to be studied: 5) monitor the flows in a CO circuit 6) decide if some flows can be moved back to CL forwarding 7) cut flows over from CO channels to CL forwarding
This also requires to enable a re-adjustment in the CO space itself depending on traffic 8) monitor flows of (several) CO circuits 9) (re-) distribute flows across available CO circuits 10) (re-) size CO-circuits 11) create or remove CO-circuits
all those mechanism reside in a single DIF and it would be great if the simulator could provide the right hooks to study the effects.
