Using rsync backup utility (snapback2) which uses hard links to decrease
size of backup. Recoll seems to follow hard links so, in my case, the index
size for a 1.5 gb backup is 5.8 gb!! Is it possible to prevent recoll from
following hard links?

    This would be quite complicated to do. Why don't you exclude the backup area from the index ?

      thanks for the v. quick reply - I feared it would be hard.
      I wanted to index backed up email on a secondary
      index ...

    Ok, I can see the usefulness in indexing backups actually. I had not thought of it, but sometimes it's hard to find where in the backups is the thing you're looking for. This is a very valid request, but as I said, also a difficult issue (esp. since it's quite possible that backups will have millions of hard links). Keeping this open, but it's more a subject of reflexion and long term project than something I can fix overnight.
